Financing and Actuarial Services

Why choose us ?

Our services help you understand the true cost drivers of your Workers’ Compensation claims, what your future risks are likely to be, and the steps you can take today to see significant savings

How do we do it?

TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) has an unmatched national network of Workers’ Compensation specialists including, preventionists, case managers, appeal specialists, paralegals, lawyers, actuaries, and financial experts. Our practice is fully bilingual, and our specialists are up-to-date on all legislation, policies, and guidelines impacting your program. Our recommendations will be structured to optimize the financial outcomes and corporate compliance.

Our services are designed around three factors:

  • Reviewing your history to look for indicators and trends, as well as errors that could award money back to you.
  • Reviewing your current program to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Forecasting to identify your future Workers’ Compensation status while answering “what would happen if…”.

  • Experience Rating Program review

A Provincial Experience Rating Programs rewards employers for having a safer workplace with fewer accidents. The assessment for an experience rating program compares your organization to other organizations in your industry. The information contained in this assessment will assist your organization in your strategy development by providing valuable insight into where you compare in your industry and where you can seek to improve.

  • Risk mitigation strategy

TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) will analyze claims to determine what the high-cost generators are, and design initiatives to address those risks. Our strategy for risk analysis uses a predictive modelling approach: looking not only at what has happened, but what is likely to occur in the future.

Our assessment will include a risk and performance review of all of your Workers’ Compensation activities including key performance indicators such as claims frequency, severity and duration by province and Canada-wide. Our assessment also includes financial performance, reserve and cash flow requirements, and trending by province and Canada-wide.

  • Schedule 2 Actuarial Services

Using your organization’s past history of claims we will determine the estimated future payments on your claims, current or unknown (IBNR) to set the proper level of liability. TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) will also determine your budgeting needs. We are the only provider in Canada, offering in-house actuarial service.

  • Mergers, Acquisitions and Re-Organization WC liability Assessment

When merging two companies, acquiring a company, or changing the structure of an organization, the operating party can be impacted by the past Workers’ Compensation performance from another area. TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) can review the past history of all parties to determine the risk for hidden charges, the potential for refunds, or to determine if there is an opportunity to review the organization’s classification and structure for optimal set-up.

  • Rate Group Classification review

There are a few reasons why an organization may want to review their rate group (i.e. when making a structural change to your organization that may affect the type of operations your organization has). TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) will do a full assessment of your current operations and determine what your organization’s ideal Workers’ Compensation rate group structure should be. If the recommendation is to move or split rate groups, we will prepare the request to the appropriate board.

  • Strategy development

A TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) Workers’ Compensation expert will work with your organization to review your current practices and identify potential for improvements.

  • Data analytics

Unlike most other providers, TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) specialists are trained to optimize database usage in our analytics, allowing us to provide better tools to your internal teams to integrate financial costs with claims management. This allows your organization to provide strategic claims management and reduce financial surprises. Our data analytics program will create a multidimensional data set that will include all information on each incident or claim as well as make projections of future liabilities.

  • Predictive analytics

Our predictive data analytics uses your organization’s data to provide various long term cost scenarios. This analysis provides your organization with valuable insight into where your future costs may be addressed and mitigated.
