As the largest provider of Workers’ Compensation services in Canada, TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) has a national team of experts. Our program has been designed to support our clients with managing this complexity. We review every claim for cost reduction and recovery potential. Our goal is to ensure the best support for your people while minimizing your risk exposure.

How do we do this?

TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) has an unmatched national network of Workers’ Compensation specialists including, preventionists, case managers, appeal specialists, paralegals, lawyers, actuaries, and financial experts. Our practice is fully bilingual, and our specialists are up-to-date on all legislation, policies, and guidelines impacting your program. We do not subcontract any work. Therefore, we can assure our clients that all cases will be expertly handled by our own Workers’ Compensation specialist.

Our services are designed to achieve your goals:

  • Better support your organization – 92% of managers rate our service as excellent while achieving an NPS score of 80% with program administrators.
  • Reduce your cost of absenteeism – our best in class process is focused on returning your employees to work with the majority returning to work within 30 days.
  • Reduce your risks – leveraging the insights from over 90,000 historical claims, we have developed a proprietary predictive model which identifies Ontario and Quebec claims with the potential to be high risk at intake and once complete WCB data is available.
  • We bring you insights and solutions – delivered real time using our Abiliti Connect dashboard with proactive discussions on trends we see, their implications and our recommendations.
  • Effective administration and risk management with a fully national infrastructure

    • Our easy to use automated form filing process submits the claim on your behalf allowing your supervisors to complete all required paperwork by answering a few online questions. Through our built in workflow we help ensure that you meet all legislative timelines while the automated process reduces the administrative burden. Our process ensures completion and accuracy of all necessary forms, removing the risk of errors, delays and fines.
    • We have a team of experts proactively managing claims looking for errors, validity of the claim, and for opportunity for objections. We also review each claim for barriers such as the need for escalated treatment, a return to work intervention or the need for a third party assessment. Our experts are ready to take on the most complex and difficult claims.
    • TELUS Health (formerly LifeWorks) has built an industry leading modified duty job bank that provides instant access to information and job tasks specific to a particular illness or injury. Our modified duty job bank takes the onus of deciding on an alternative job off the supervisor who can now instantly print the offer of modified work directly from AbilitiAlert.
  • Appeals and tribunal representation

Some firms take an aggressive stance on appeals. In our experience, there are many instances when it is more cost effective or otherwise beneficial if the employer does not appeal a decision. For example, we believe that a good long-term relationship with the provincial boards is another important consideration in an appeal strategy, and the integrity of the relationship between employer and employee should always be protected.

Should a claim require an appeal, we will provide a rationale for appealing a case, the cost-benefit analysis, and the estimated chances of success. We can subsequently represent the employer at all levels of the appeals process, including tribunals. The experience and knowledge of our appeal staff are unmatched in the industry. Many of our appeal specialists have previous experience working at the WCB and fully understand the applicable burden of proof required to be successful at both levels of appeal.

  • Historical claims review and cost recovery

Experience rated costs can be reduced by obtaining cost relief on occupational injuries or through identifying opportunity for objection. One of our workers’ compensation experts will review past claims to look for errors, omissions, cost mitigation opportunities such as cost relief, transfer of cost, claim amalgamation, etc. and/or opportunities to appeal unfavorable claim decisions. A historical claims review can help reduce your claim and premium costs today as well as affect the future impact of your claims’ experience.
